PIWA appoints DeFeo, Walfish to board

GLENMONT, N.Y.—The Professional Insurance Wholesalers Association of New York State Inc., appointed Michael DeFeo, RPLU, ASLI, and Barry Walfish to its board of directors during its board meeting June 26, 2007.

DeFeo is vice president for NIF Group Inc.'s Pro Division, focusing on professional liability. In this capacity, he represents more than 20 companies, most of which are property/casualty carriers. DeFeo has been with NIF Group for 10 years, prior to which he earned a bachelor of science in business management at Adelphi University, Garden City, N.Y. He is an active member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society and lives in Port Washington, N.Y.

Walfish is underwriting manager at Jimcor Agencies, Plainview, N.Y. Prior to Jimcor, he was account manager for American Marketing, Jericho, N.Y., underwriter for Brokers Facilities, Lynbrook, N.Y. and owner of Insur-It Agency Inc. Walfish has been a member of PIWA since 1988 and joined the board of directors in 1997 as secretary. He is a member of the Professional Insurance Agents of New York State Inc., executive vice president of the local men's club and board member for the Commack Jewish Center. Walfish attended Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., and resides in Commack, N.Y.

Established in 1978, the Professional Insurance Wholesalers Association of New York State Inc. is a trade association of New York state insurance wholesalers serving retail insurance producers with specialty and excess lines markets.
